Biography :
Born in Lyon in 1957, Robert Combas is a contemporary artist, painter, sculptor and illustrator. A leading figure in the “Figuration Libre” movement of the 1980s, his work extends beyond painting to include drawing, performance art and, more recently, music. His painting is inspired by rock and everything that makes up culture accessible to all. It is also inspired by the great classical masters, which he reinterprets.

Robert Combas exorcises the dramas of history by interpreting them in his poetic and humorous style. He deciphers the world, embellishing or darkening it as he sees fit… The artist takes us on an incredible colourful and musical adventure. Cultivating a style inspired by graffiti and comic strips, he creates paintings that are sometimes casual and humorous, sometimes violent and sensual. Characterised by bright colours and a black line delimiting the figures represented, the Combas style is free and spontaneous.
