Antique Dutch Silver Openwork Basket – Amsterdam, Late 19th Century
Elegant Dutch silver openwork basket, crafted in solid silver (835/1000) and assayed in Amsterdam in the late 19th century (circa 1880–1890).
This refined basket features a richly pierced and chased rococo-style decoration, with flowing acanthus leaves, scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The smooth oval centre contrasts beautifully with the intricate openwork rim, highlighting the quality of the silversmith’s workmanship.
Originally intended as a bonbon dish or small table center piece, this type of basket was a decorative element on well-appointed Dutch tables and remains highly attractive today as both a functional and ornamental silver object.
