Saint-Louis Crystal Tommy Collection — Set of 12 Tumblers This exquisite set of twelve tumblers belongs to the iconic Tommy collection by Cristallerie Saint-Louis, France’s oldest crystal manufacturer, founded in 1586 and the first to produce lead crystal in Continental Europe. The Tommy collection was famously showcased at a luncheon at Versailles Palace for King George VI, where eleven different Tommy glass styles graced over 200 place settings. Each tumbler is a “cased” piece, blown first in clear crystal and then encased in colored crystal. The intricate pattern is meticulously hand-cut by skilled artisans to reveal the clear underlayer — showcasing the hallmark diamond, bevel, pearl, and almond cuts rising to a finely etched floral and foliate scroll band at the rim. The star-cut base is a signature of the Tommy collection, present since 1928. This set includes ten cranberry/red, one cobalt blue, and one emerald green tumbler — a richly colorful and rare multi-hued grouping. The colored crystal varieties are highly prized, with Saint-Louis offering red, green, dark blue, and other shades that enhance the brilliance of the crystal. All pieces are in excellent condition with the characteristic star-etched maker’s mark on the base.
