Large Hand-Forged Iron Chest Lock with Original Key – Spain, Late 17th Century
A large hand-forged wrought iron chest lock from Spain, dating to the late 17th or early 18th century.
This impressive lock retains its original iron key and remains in full working order. The internal mechanism operates smoothly, with both locking bolts functioning correctly.
Entirely handcrafted in wrought iron, the lock displays traditional blacksmith techniques, including forged construction, decorative geometric motifs and individually forged rivets. Such locks were originally fitted to large wooden chests, coffers or strongboxes, providing both security and ornamental value.
The piece remains in excellent antique condition considering its age, with an attractive natural patina acquired over centuries of use. No modern restorations have been observed, preserving its authenticity.
An outstanding collector's piece for enthusiasts of medieval and early modern ironwork, antique locksmithing, historical furniture hardware or Spanish decorative arts.
