Ancestoral Ashanti stool used on family altars to consult with the ancestors. This could well be a small stool used by a now deceased ancestor and now held in reference by their relatives to commemorate the memory of the parted family member. It is regularly poured over with special liquids and substances, to commemorate the parted member. In time this stool acquires a thick ceremonial crust; a testimony to its long and intense use. very nice old and well-used piece. Collected in the city of Kumasi in the late 1990,s and from a private Dutch collection. Dim.;23 x 44 cm.
