Created in the artist’s garden at Giverny during the final decades of his life, these luminous compositions depict the tranquil surface of a pond covered with floating lilies, shimmering reflections and soft atmospheric light. Rather than presenting a traditional landscape, Monet transforms the water’s surface into an immersive field of color, movement and light. During this late period, Monet moved beyond the earlier principles of Impressionism toward a more expansive and expressive approach to painting. The brushwork becomes freer and more fluid, dissolving the boundaries between water, sky and vegetation.
