Pastillero - Plata - Vinagreta - Francia

French Vermeil Vinaigrette – Boar's Head Hallmark – c. 1838–1900 An elegant 19th-century French vermeil vinaigrette of rectangular form, beautifully decorated with finely hand-engraved scrolling foliate borders surrounding engine-turned panels to both sides. The central cartouches have been left vacant, making the piece particularly attractive. The vinaigrette opens to reveal a finely pierced and gilded grille featuring an intricate bird amongst flowers and foliage. The original gilding remains well preserved, with a warm patina developed over more than a century. The piece is stamped with the French boar's head hallmark, the guarantee mark used on small silver objects of 800/1000 standard from 1838 onwards, confirming its French origin. Details Origin: France Period: 19th century (circa 1838–1900) Material: Silver gilt (vermeil), 800 silver Hallmark: French boar's head Weight: 19 g Dimensions: 3 × 2 cm Condition Very good antique condition. Hinge functions correctly. Closes securely. Pierced inner grille is complete and undamaged. Attractive age-related wear and light rubbing to the gilding consistent with age and careful use. No significant dents or repairs observed. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an integral part of the description. A highly decorative and collectable example of a traditional French vinaigrette, combining refined engraving with an exceptionally attractive pierced grille depicting a bird amongst scrolling foliage. Pieces of this quality are increasingly difficult to find, particularly retaining their original vermeil finish.
