Signed, Tadahiko Hayashi - Days in the Dregs (Second Printing) - 1980

A photo collection by Tadahiko Hayashi, one of Japan's most representative post-war photographers, titled ‘Days in the Dregs (Signed)’. Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1918, Hayashi worked at a press and propaganda agency attached to the embassy in Beijing during the war, where he was involved in photographing China's five major industries at the time. After returning to Japan in 1946, he worked tirelessly for magazines to make a living, capturing the post-war chaos of Showa-era Japan, where the desire for a small ray of hope from an oppressed society intertwined with the relentless drive to survive. This book is a collection of works that encapsulate the customs, culture, and atmosphere of that time. While drinking ‘kasturi,’ a cheap liquor with no taste, like methyl alcohol, he desperately captured the glamorous American soldiers and the Japanese people living in their shadow. The book also includes snapshots of writers such as Oda Sakunosuke and Dazai Osamu, which are masterpieces by Hayashi. The editing by Akira Hasegawa, known for his work on Fukase Masahisa's ‘Crow’ and Onaka Koji's ‘Tall Grass,’ is also outstanding. Text by Yoshiyuki Jun'nosuke. Second printing. Signed by the photographer. Page count not specified. Shipping Method We ship via Japan Post, DHL, or FedEx. International Buyers: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping costs. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Check with your country’s customs office to determine these additional costs before bidding/buying. These duties are paid to your customs office, not us. Prompt payment ensures item delivery.
