Original color lithography from 1999 by Belgian visual artist/painter and engraver Pjeroo Roobjee on beautifully preserved hand-made paper. Good condition of the paper and the artwork (the work may contain small stains on the passe-partout (see the last photos))! Very colorful and bright.

Lithography was published in 2009 by the organization 'Flemish Art'.

Signed and numbered out of 500 copies. This litho also contains a CV of the artist (see photo).

The work is signed and also numbered in pencil by the artist.

Pjeroo Roobjee (born 1945, Ghent) is a Belgian artist, writer and performer known for his quirky, often absurdist visual language and literary universe. He grew into a cult figure within the Flemish art world, distinguished by a combination of painting, drawing, theater, poetry and prose.

Roobjee studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and developed his own distinct style early on. His paintings often feature bewildering figures, hybrid beings and theatrical scenes that balance between humor and threat. The world he conjures is grotesque, baroque and lightly surreal, with influences from both the Flemish primitives and modern expressionist and Dadaist tendencies. His work is figurative, but distorted and loaded with symbolism.

In addition to his visual work Roobjee is also a prolific author. He wrote novels, essays and plays in which the same absurdist logic and linguistic playfulness recur as in his paintings. His language is rich, archaic and ironic, often peppered with wordplay and social critique.

Roobjee performed for years with lectures and performances in which he presented his texts with a characteristic, theatrical presence. He became not only a visual artist and writer, but also a striking performer who nurtured his own mythical alter ego.

His oeuvre has been awarded various prizes and is included in both private and public collections in Belgium and beyond. Pjeroo Roobjee is considered one of the most idiosyncratic and unclassifiable voices within contemporary Flemish art.
