Espaivet - Espaivet - Jarrón - abanico - Vidrio

Art Deco vase in blue satin glass, model "Eventail" — Espaivet (S.P.V., Paris), circa 1925–1930 Description The most celebrated glassmaker of the early twentieth century is arguably René Lalique. His output was vast, but he was certainly not the only maker working in the same technique and idiom. This vase is a fine example of that broader production: ovoid, with a short flaring neck, blown into the mould under compressed air — the method that gives the relief its crispness and the glass its satin skin. The decoration is a continuous repetition of fans (model Eventail), overlapping across the body like roof tiles. The motif runs uninterrupted around the vase and tightens towards the shoulder, making the form read as fuller still. The clear blue colour, deeper in the engraved lines and lifting on the curves, is what makes the piece irresistible: under raking light the surface shifts from powder blue to almost white. The name Espaivet is the phonetic rendering of the initials S.P.V., for the Société Parisienne de Verrerie, established in Paris at the end of the nineteenth century. The firm initially specialised in medical glassware and turned its production towards decorative objects from 1925, at the height of the Art Deco period. The glassworks stood on the boulevard d'Italie in the 13th arrondissement. S.P.V. pieces are sought after today. Specifications Maker: Espaivet / Société Parisienne de Verrerie (S.P.V.), Paris Model: Eventail (fan decoration) Period: Art Deco, circa 1925–1930 Material: blown glass, satin-finished, blue Marks: Good condition with no chips The package will be savely shipped and insured.
