Erg Chech 003 - Condrita carbonácea (CR2) - fragmentos - 16.31 g

Offered for sale is a set of eight fragments of Erg Chech 003 (from less than 1 gram to 3.8 grams with a total weight of over 16 grams), a scarce CR2 carbonaceous chondrite recovered in Algeria in 2021. With an officially recorded total known mass of slightly over 1 kg, this meteorite ranks among the rarer carbonaceous chondrites available. Erg Chech 003 represents far more than an uncommon meteorite. Its combination of rarity, scientific significance (showing signs of in-situ aqueous alteration which occured on its asteroid parent body), and limited availability makes it a highly desirable acquisition for collectors who focus on primitive Solar System material. Erg Chech 003 (EC 003) 26°01.92’N, 1°36.66’W Adrar, Algeria Find: 2021 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CR2) History: Found in 2021 by Ali Mustapha near the town of In Zghmir. Later purchased in 2021 by Shun-Chung Yang. Physical characteristics: Sample contains visible fusion crust. A slice taken of the sample reveals an assortment of chondrules and metal grains. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) This sample is composed of chondrules (Primarily porphyritic Type I, Av. 1.3 mm, up to 2.5 mm, ~70 vol. %) set within a fine-grained, hydrous matrix (~30 vol. %). Metal occurs either as blobs within chondrules or as rims around chondrules. Geochemistry: Type I Olivine (Fa1.7±0.4, range Fa1.0-2.3, n=21), Type II Olivine (Fa38.2, n=1), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs3.0±1.4Wo0.8±0.2, range Fs1.3-6.8Wo0.5-1.3, n=11). Average EPMA analytical totals in the matrix 81.9 wt. % (n=10). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CR2) based on texture, mineral compositions and low matrix analytical totals. I am a member of the Meteoritical Society (#7743) and have been collecting meteorites for more than 15 years.
