Descripción del vendedor

Impressive double-view of TRIPOLI on the Northern-Lebanese coast.
Drawn from nature by the famous Dutch traveler and topographer Cornelis de Bruyn (1652-1726) during his voyage to the Levant.
This double-view (plate Nr.151 and 152) is often mistaken is being of Tripoli in Libya, while the author/ painter clearly describes in his book the visit to Tripoli in Lebanon . He never visited Libya.

The upper depiction features the view from the Mediterranean Sea towards the old harbor of Tripoli, namely EL-MINA, the commercial and fishing port of Tripoli since ancient Phoenician times, together with the famous landmark Barsbay Tower, also known as Lions Tower, a small Mamluk military fortress.
The bottom view depicts a scene within the city along Kadisha River (=Abu Ali River) with the large building being the Palace of the Pasha.

Etching with original center fold.
RARE FIRST EDITION. Dated: Delft, 1698. Published in " Reizen van Cornelis de Bruyn...".
(Later editions will title this print: Marina di Tripoli)
Tight margins at the right and left as originally issued to fit the book. Untrimmed!
Size of the whole sheet: 39, 5 x 33 cm
Excellent condition! Strong and fresh paper quality, clear imprint of the etching.
