Espejo de pared - Madera dorada - Espejo Barroco
This antique Italian Baroque/Rococo carved and gilded wood mirror (specchiera), dating from the 17th to the early 18th century, showcases exquisite period craftsmanship. The front features a magnificent, heavily sculpted frame adorned with openwork cresting (cimasa). It displays scrolling volutes, rocaille motifs, and delicate floral carvings characteristic of northern Italian—likely Piedmontese—cabinetmaking. The gilded surface displays a rich, authentic patina with subtle wear that highlights the depth of the hand-carved details. The reverse side provides absolute confirmation of its structural authenticity and historical integrity. The back layout reveals hand-sawn timber planks showing natural oxidation, which has darkened the wood to a deep gray-brown hue over centuries. To reinforce the fragile, intricate openwork of the upper cresting and lateral ears, the artisan utilized a traditional network of interlocking wooden support blocks and a central vertical spine. The mirror plate is secured by a robust, hand-planed solid wood backboard nestled within the frame's rebate. Every element, from the irregular tool marks to the original assembly method, testifies to a genuine antique free from modern alterations.
