DESCRIPTION:

Space Waffle belongs to one of the most distinctive and conceptually irreverent projects by Invader, the French artist internationally recognised for incorporating 8-bit video game aesthetics and pixel-based imagery into contemporary art and urban space.

Created in 2011, the work transforms an everyday object — a waffle — into a three-dimensional representation of Invader's characteristic visual universe. The structure of the waffle reproduces the instantly recognisable pixelated geometry associated with his characters and mosaics, creating a dialogue between popular culture, street art, the everyday object and conceptual humour.

With Space Waffle, Invader takes his visual vocabulary beyond the traditional mosaic format and transfers it to an unexpected object, transforming an ordinary consumer item into a limited-edition work of art.
