An artwork born from the energy of the volcano: contained, intense and almost silent, but carrying the unmistakable feeling of something alive beneath the surface.
VULCANO N60 explores the tension between darkness and eruption. The composition is dominated by deep blacks and charcoal tones, interrupted by a horizontal band of intense volcanic red that seems to emerge from within the darkness. It can be read as lava, fire, a horizon or an internal energy that refuses to disappear.
The surface is especially important in this work. Its rich, irregular texture catches the light in constantly changing ways, creating small highlights and shadows across the black field. The painting therefore does not remain visually identical throughout the day: its appearance can change significantly depending on the position, intensity and temperature of the light. Under soft or indirect illumination, the work becomes darker, deeper and more contemplative; with lateral or stronger light, the relief of the surface becomes much more evident and the subtle variations within the blacks begin to emerge.
The red line is deliberately restrained. Rather than dominating the composition, it acts as a pulse running through the darkness — a reminder of the immense energy contained beneath a seemingly calm surface.
