The principal medallion reproduces a Portuguese 400 réis coin dated 1812, bearing the inscription “JOANNES D.G. PORT. ET ALG. PRINCEPS”, together with the crowned Portuguese arms. A smaller matching coin-form element forms the cigarette rest, giving the piece a distinctive numismatic character.
