The Canon Autoboy Lite 2, sold overseas as the Sure Shot Ace, belongs to Canon's hugely successful Autoboy line of autofocus compacts that began in 1979 with the world's first autofocus 35mm compact camera. Introduced in the late 1980s, the Lite 2 pairs a sharp 35mm f/4.5 lens with fully automatic exposure, motorised film handling and a built-in flash in a rounded, pocketable body; this DATE version adds a quartz data back for imprinting the date on the negative. Light, dependable and entirely automatic, it is typical of the golden age of Japanese point-and-shoots now enjoying renewed popularity among film shooters. Measured exposure deviation is small: about +0.6 EV at EV12 and +0.5 EV at EV15. Measured Performance We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured: - Light meter accuracy — EV12: 0.6 OVER / EV15: 0.5 OVER Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself. Known Issues 1. Part of the battery-cover latch is chipped. The cover still closes and holds, and shooting is not affected — please check the photos.
