NO1R - Super Mario: Power Up!

Super Mario: Power Up!

Introducing a vibrant contemporary interpretation by NO1R, this original mixed media artwork on paper reimagines one of the most recognizable characters in video game history through a bold Pop Art and urban street art aesthetic.

Titled “Super Mario: Power Up!”, the artwork captures Mario in a confident and energetic pose, raising his hand in a playful gesture. The iconic red cap, blue overalls and unmistakable expression bring a sense of nostalgia, personality and positive energy to the composition.

The artist combines the familiarity of classic video game culture with an expressive contemporary visual language. Strong black outlines, vivid colours, layered textures and spontaneous paint splashes create a striking contrast between the character and the abstract urban background.

The result is a dynamic piece that celebrates gaming culture, childhood memories and the timeless appeal of one of pop culture's most beloved characters.

Created entirely by hand, this original artwork combines airbrush, acrylic markers, acrylic paint and spray paint, resulting in a rich mixed media composition with distinctive textures and expressive details.

About the Artist

NO1R is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across mixed media painting and 3D sculpture, with a strong foundation in traditional techniques and a deep connection to street culture.

Moving between urban art, pop art and contemporary storytelling, the work explores a wide range of subjects, from iconic figures in animation and popular culture to original characters, portraits and abstract compositions.

Alongside painting, NO1R develops sculptural pieces through digital modelling, later produced in resin or filament, extending the visual language into physical form.

With a background in visual arts and audiovisual production, and influenced by the early evolution of graffiti culture in Portugal, the practice reflects a lifelong passion for illustration, music and expressive visual creation.
