A Viking bronze amulet pendant, composed of a circular suspension ring bearing two pendants: one a sinuous zoomorphic charm representing the Fafnir dragon, the other an axe-shaped amulet symbolising strength and protection. Both elements are attached with twisted bronze wire. The pendant is strung on a modern black leather cord for wear, or suitable for display. An evocative piece of Norse workmanship combining mythological and martial symbolism. ± 43 mm Fafnir pendant ± 40,8 suspension ring ± 27 mm amulet Condition: good solid condition. Both amulets are wrapped on the original suspension ring which is strung on a modern leather jewellery cord. In Norse mythology Fafnir was the son of the dwarf king Hreidmar and was slain by Sigurd. In Norse culture Fafnir was a symbol of strength and greed. The fateful story of Fafnir was a warning against the chaotic and destructive powers of greed.
