Panel raro de mano tallada - Angel - 42 cm - Madera - 1850 - 1900

Hand-carved wooden angel with “PAX” banner – Ligurian Sacred Art – ca. 1890–1910 Rare ecclesiastical ornament with a strong incense patina from Liguria (Italy), originally serving as the crowning element of a sacristy cabinet, most likely an Armadio dei Turiboli, where incense, charcoal and the turibolo were stored before Mass. The piece is entirely hand-carved from solid wood and shows traces of its original gilding and polychromy. The two openings on the back indicate its original mounting position on the upper rail of a sacristy cabinet. The angel displays the characteristic serene expression, stylised hair and soft facial features associated with late 19th–early 20th-century Arte Sacra Ligure. The wood retains a strong and clearly recognisable incense scent, absorbed through decades of continuous liturgical use — a characteristic only found on genuinely used sacristy furnishings. The warm surface tone and subtle smoke darkening further attest to its authentic ecclesiastical history. A unique and highly atmospheric fragment of Italian religious art with strong sculptural presence — rarely found as an independent piece on the market and highly decorative. ⸻ Specifications • Origin: Liguria, Italy • Period: ca. 1890–1910 • Material: Solid hand-carved wood • Finish: Traces of original gilding and polychromy • Function: Crowning panel of a sacristy incense cabinet (Armadio dei Turiboli) • Condition: Very good antique condition with age-consistent wear • Patina: Authentic incense and smoke patina from long ecclesiastical use • Dimensions: 42 x 31 cm and height head 5,5 cm ⸻ Note A highly collectible piece of Arte Sacra, ideal for collectors of ecclesiastical art, interior decorators, and lovers of Italian devotional sculpture.
