Michael Powell - Peeping Tom - Década de 1960

This is an original Yugoslav theatrical poster for Michael Powell’s Peeping Tom (1960), released in Yugoslavia under the title “Smrt u očima.” The film is now considered one of the earliest and most influential psychological horror / proto-slasher films ever made, and posters from its first and early international distribution are exceptionally scarce. Artwork & Design The Yugoslav poster features a striking, minimalist and unsettling design: a large, stylized eye illuminated by a beam of yellow light an image of the killer operating his modified camera (one of cinema’s most iconic horror props) a torn-frame inset photo of a woman on a dimly lit street bold, vivid red typography for the local title SMRT U OČIMA The overall aesthetic perfectly captures the voyeuristic, disturbing nature of the film. It is entirely different from UK and U.S. materials — a uniquely Yugoslav graphic interpretation rarely seen on the market. Authenticity This is a genuine Yugoslav cinema poster, printed in the 1960s by Beograd Film. Authenticity indicators: Distributor logo: Beograd Film Localised cast and credits in Serbian/Croatian Early 1960s paper stock with matte finish Original fold lines (YU one-sheets were always folded) Standard Yugoslav format approx. 70×50 cm Condition Very Good vintage condition (folded as issued). Strong colours despite age Light fold wear Minor edge handling and small imperfections, normal for 60+-year-old posters No major tears, no writing, no significant paper loss A remarkably clean example considering its rarity and age. Collectability Peeping Tom has become a cornerstone for collectors of: early horror proto-slasher cinema British cult classics psychological thrillers rare Yugoslav posters Because the film was controversial at release and had limited distribution worldwide, posters are extremely rare, and Yugoslav versions are even scarcer — seldom appearing at auction. This is a top-tier collector piece. Shipping Will be shipped carefully folded, reinforced between rigid cardboard layers, with tracking.
