It was made for motorsport professionals and was named after the famous Daytona Beach in Florida, where numerous land speed records were broken.
Introduced in 1963, the reference 6239 Daytona was the first Rolex chronograph with a tachymeter bezel that allowed its wearer to measure the speed of an object. The watch gained traction in the racing world but did not gain widespread acceptance until later, thanks in part to a handsome actor/race car driver named Paul Newman.

Born in the late '80s, this reference became the first Cosmograph to offer a combination platter of metals.

Over the years, the model has seen various updates and has become one of the most desirable watch models in the world.
