Awarded a 9- by DGH: "A family estate owned by two Austrian men: Daniel Vogelwaid and Michael Donabaum. They run a tiny business in the Wachau region. Initially, Daniel and Michael didn't have any vineyards. So they put out a call: 'Does anyone have a difficult-to-access or abandoned vineyard?' They've since found old, abandoned, overgrown Sleeping Beauty-style vineyards. They currently own four hectares, three of which are working. These are cultivated with dedication, passion, and an inclusive mindset. The men are also a hit on Instagram, with more followers than residents of their own village. Although that's not so hard to do if you live in Rossatz-Arnsdorf. Von der Vogelwaide White is a blend of equal parts Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, and Pinot Blanc. Fermented with skins (natural wine alarm bells ringing), with malo, on lie, and partially aged in wood. Refined, low in alcohol, high in... Taste. A glass that gives a lot. Includes an oxidized apple, fennel and anise tea, Ricola herb lozenges with alpine herbs, and lime zest.
