She was so impressed with the craftsmanship that she encouraged him to start his own watch company. The brand name “Edox” was derived from the ancient Greek word for “hour”. Over more than a century, Edox became known for reliable Swiss watchmaking and several technical innovations. One of the most famous milestones came in 1961 with the introduction of the Edox Delfin, a watch that became a pioneer in water resistance. Thanks to its double caseback, double crown sealing system and patented O-ring technology, the watch could withstand water pressure up to 200 meters – an impressive achievement at the time.
