Vintage LeCoultre Art Deco Rectangular Watch – Cal. 438/4CW – Circa 1948
Offered here is an elegant vintage LeCoultre rectangular wristwatch, dating to approximately 1948. With its strong Art Deco proportions, black dial, gold-tone detailing and slim profile, this is a refined example of a mid-century Swiss dress watch.
The watch is powered by the manually wound LeCoultre calibre 438/4CW, a high-quality rectangular movement fitted with 17 jewels and subsidiary seconds. The movement is signed LeCoultre Co., numbered 738503, and marked VXN, indicating production for the North American market.
The watch has undergone a complete in-house service. The movement has been cleaned, lubricated and regulated, and all functions are working correctly. It winds smoothly, sets properly and keeps time as expected for a vintage mechanical watch.
The black dial has been professionally restored in a period-correct style. It features applied-style gold Arabic numerals and hour markers, matching gold-tone hands, a small-seconds register at 6 o’clock, and the LeCoultre signature below 12. The restored dial gives the watch a particularly striking and elegant appearance.
The rectangular steel case is presented in very good condition for its age, with light surface wear consistent with careful use and previous polishing. Its long, curved profile sits comfortably on the wrist and retains the classic proportions associated with men’s watches of the 1940s. By modern standards, the size is equally suitable for both men and women, making it an attractive unisex vintage watch.
The watch is fitted with a modern black genuine leather strap and matching metal buckle.
