"Koume Hikifune-dori Yuki no Kei" (Snow Scene at Kourne Hikibune-dori) - Kobayashi Kiyochika (1847-1915) - Japon

Original woodblock print - Paper - Kobayashi Kiyochika (1847-1915) - "Koume Hikifune-dori Yuki no Kei" (Snow Scene at Kourne Hikibune-dori) - Japan - Meiji period (1868 - 1912) The first edition of this design was published in 1879. The current print is from a later edition. The measurements of the image itself (excluding the margins) are 20.2 x 30.9 cm. Publisher: Fukuda Kumajiro Kiyochika Kobayashi was born on September 10, 1847, in the Asakusa district of Tokyo. He was a versatile artist, working as an independent painter, printmaker, and illustrator for newspapers. The woodblock prints created by Kiyochika Kobayashi span a diverse range of genres and styles. Recognized as a significant figure of the Japanese Meiji period, he played a crucial role in shaping subsequent generations of Japanese printmakers, bridging the gap between the traditional ukiyo-e and the emerging shin hanga art movement. The print is in good state, but the paper is thin, there are spots in the margin, soiling and loss of color. The print is not a first edition, but woodgrain is still faintly visible in the sky. Will be shipped with great care in sturdy packaging to prevent folding.
