Document: Obscene Culture” is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Hiroshi Takano. Although his career as a photographer is unknown, this book documents the transition of Japanese sexual culture and the women surrounding it from the 1970s to the 1980s with magazine journalists and writers such as Ryuichiro Kitahama (pen name: Ryuichiro Fukiage) and Inatoshi Kuwabara. The book also documents the golden age of Turkish baths, the rise of SM clubs and haunted cabarets, the popularity of lesbian bars, private room cafes, love massages, and telephone clubs, as well as the emergence of biker gangs, the Takezoku tribe, and the “Takezoku” group. The book also describes the history of customs and manners of the time, including the culture of biker gangs, bamboo tribe, tattoos, delinquent girls, etc. In the words of Hiromi Tsuchida, a leading Japanese photographer who also contributed text to the book, “This is a record of the changes in Japanese sexual consciousness during the 1970s.
