Boer War Period British Cavalry Officer Portrait in Signed Kashmiri Dragon Frame, c.1900 - Jubbar Khan & Son - Cadre - Bois

An exceptional early 20th-century military portrait photograph of a British Army cavalry officer, dating to the late Victorian / early Edwardian period (circa 1900-1910). The officer is depicted wearing full dress uniform and three campaign medals consistent with service during the Second Boer War. The photograph is housed in an elaborately hand-carved wooden frame of Kashmiri origin, richly decorated with opposing imperial dragons in deep relief. The frame retains its origina, maker's label to the reverse, reading: "Made by Jubbar Khan and Son, State Wood Carvers and Papier Mache Makers, 3rd Bridge, Srinagar, Kashmir." This label firmly attributes the frame to a named, state-recognised artisan workshop active in Srinagar during the British colonial period. Such labelled examples are scarce, as most surviving frames have lost their original workshop identification. The combination of a documented Kashmiri artisan frame with an original British military portrait reflects the historical context of British officers acquiring high-quality local craftsmanship while serving across the Empire. The photograph appears to be an original period print and not a later reproduction. Dimensions: 35×23×1.5cm . Weight 1kg Tracked shipment and well packaged.
