Style baroque Ciboire - Argent 950 - 1850-1900 - 30 cm
French silver ciborium with extensive decoration, 19th century.
Ciborium with decoration of floral motives like: reed stems and pomegranates, ears of corn and grapevines.
On the foot three bust-portraits of Jesus, St. Mary and St.John.
On the cuppa three oval medaillons with: St.Mary with the infant Jezus with lamb and his nephew St.John, with a praying woman with anchor (symbol of belief) and a woman with a chalice with the holy bread as symbol for the eucharist. This medaillons are marked with inscription mark of one of the makers: Montagny F.
Jean-Pierre Montagny (31 July 1789 – 1862) was a medaillist and coiner and made litugical vessels.
The cuppa of the ciborium is gilded (inside and outside)
The cross on top of the lid is replaced.
Hallmarks: - Minerva's 1 for 950/1000 = 95% pure siver. (first grade French silver)
- Makersmark: M & D with anchor in lozenge. M = J.P. Montagny
(these marks were applied from A.D. 1838 onwards in France)
