ABOUT THE ARTWORK
With this portrait, I wanted to place the viewer face-to-face with one of the most powerful and emotionally complex animals on Earth. The gorilla is often seen as a symbol of raw strength, but when you observe him closely, you find something deeper—an intelligence, a calm authority, and a quiet, grounded presence. My goal was to translate that duality into a visual language shaped by texture, contrast, and rhythm.
The background is built with layered tones of emerald, teal, and subtle gold accents, creating an atmosphere between dense jungle and mineral light. Its organic patterns mirror the gorilla’s environment—wild, textured, and alive. I created it instinctively, using my spontaneous abstraction technique to contrast with the precision of the stencil work.
The gorilla himself emerges through hundreds of hand-cut details, each one shaping the density of his fur, the contours of his massive frame, and most importantly, the depth of his gaze. I focused on the eyes as the emotional anchor of the piece. They reflect a mix of dignity, patience, and silent observation—the very qualities that make the gorilla so admired and respected.
