Late 19th-century craftsmanship
Before the introduction of modern tea bags, loose-leaf tea was commonly brewed directly in the pot. A silver tea strainer was placed over the cup to filter the leaves while pouring.
The gilded interior prevented the tea’s tannins—naturally acidic—from reacting with the silver, ensuring both durability and a pleasant taste.
Today, such strainers are fully functional for everyday tea drinking, but they are also collectible objects of 19th-century decorative silverwork.
Excellent antique condition with light signs of use consistent with age.
The gilding inside remains attractive. All perforations intact.
A charming and practical piece for both use and display.
