Oribe Mizusashi - Jarre d'eau émaillée verte pour la cérémonie du thé - Céramique - 安藤日出武 Ando Hidetake (1938-) - Japon - 1900-2000

Item Description This exceptional Oribe water jar (mizusashi) is a masterful creation by 安藤日出武 Ando Hidetake (1938-), one of Japan's most respected contemporary Mino ware ceramists and a designated holder of Gifu Prefecture's Important Intangible Cultural Property for Kiseto technique. The piece exemplifies the distinctive characteristics of Oribe ware, featuring the rich green copper glaze that has captivated tea ceremony practitioners for centuries. Ando is renowned for his dedication to traditional Momoyama-era techniques, firing his works in an anagama (tunnel kiln) for six days and nights to achieve authentic effects that cannot be replicated with modern methods. Having studied under the legendary Kato Tokuro, Ando personally searches for clay in the mountains and formulates his own glazes, embodying the pure spirit of Mino pottery tradition. This water jar demonstrates the artist's mastery through its organic form and the spontaneous, flame-kissed surface that could only emerge from wood-firing. The deep green Oribe glaze creates a natural landscape across the vessel's surface, while the included lacquered lid and protective cloth add functionality and refinement for tea ceremony use. The piece comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako) and certificate (shiori), confirming its authenticity and provenance. The work bears all the hallmarks of Ando's philosophy: respect for natural materials, dedication to historical techniques, and the pursuit of beauty born from the dialogue between clay and flame. Size Height: 13 cm Width: 19 cm Depth: 19 cm Condition In good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear consistent with use and handling. Shows natural firing variations and kiln effects characteristic of anagama firing. Artist Profile Ando Hidetake (b. 1938) is a distinguished Japanese ceramic artist from Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, the heartland of Mino ware production. After graduating from Tajimi Technical High School, he worked in his family's kiln before encountering the legendary master Kato Tokuro, who advised him to dedicate himself to Mino's indigenous ceramic traditions: Shino, Ki-Seto, and Oribe wares from the Momoyama period. Throughout his illustrious career, Ando has received numerous accolades including the Koheisho Award (1990), Mino Ceramic Shoroku Prize Grand Prize (1998), and the Gifu Newspaper Grand Prize Cultural Award (2002). In 1998, he was designated as a holder of Tajimi City's Intangible Cultural Property, and in 2003, he received the prestigious designation as holder of Gifu Prefecture's Important Intangible Cultural Property for Kiseto technique. In 2016, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays. Ando's commitment to authenticity led him to construct his own anagama kiln at Sentarogama, firing works in the traditional six-day-and-night cycle. He personally searches for clay and formulates his own glazes, maintaining the entire creative process from earth to finished work. His pieces are celebrated for capturing the spirit of Momoyama tea ceremony aesthetics while expressing a distinctly contemporary sensibility. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
