This is a beautiful large Arita ware suiban (water basin), representing one of Japan’s most renowned traditional ceramic arts. Created by Tetsuzan, this oval-shaped basin (also suitable as a flower vessel or bonsai pot) features an elegant blue-and-white sansui (landscape) design, painted directly onto the white porcelain body using cobalt blue (gosu), then glazed and fired. The basin bears the artist’s “Tetsuzan” signature on the base, attesting to its authenticity and craftsmanship. Traditionally, a kenzan (needle holder) is used when arranging flowers in this type of basin.
