Nº 100184572

Royaume de Pologne. Friedrich II August. 2/3 Thaler (taler) 1747, Dresden - Rare Wedding Gulden
A rare silver 2/3 taler struck in 1747 in Dresden to commemorate the marriage of Louis, Dauphin of France (Ludovici Delphini), and Maria Josepha – Polish and Saxon princess, daughter of Augustus III, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony.
Obverse: Latin inscription commemorating the wedding ceremony:
LUDOVICI DELPHINI ET MARIÆ IOSEPHÆ REG: POL: PRINC: CONNUBIUM DRESDÆ MDCCXLVII.
Reverse: Flaming altar with the coats of arms of both spouses; legend AMOR MUTUUS ("Mutual Love").
This coin is an excellent example of 18th-century medallic art and an important historical testimony to the marital alliance between two major European dynasties — the Bourbons and the Wettins.
Silver. Denomination: 2/3 taler.
Beautiful patina, sharp details, and highly attractive appearance.
