The legend of Narcissus of the Flies is a Girona tradition in which, during a French siege in 1285, millions of flies emerged from the tomb of Saint Narcissus, bishop and martyr of the city, to attack and scare away the invaders, thus saving Girona. The flies, which bit the French but not the people of Girona, became a symbol of the city, and it is believed that touching the flies found in the city can grant miracles.
