Fifty Flower Themes - Lady's Fingers 黃燭葵 - 1930 - Limited Edition - Tobei Kamei 亀井藤兵衛 (1901-1977) - Japon (Sans prix de réserve)

We cannot ship to the USA due to suspension of the postal services from Malta. (Please read below). Approximately 100 years ago, the Kyoto Sosaku Hanga Kyokai was formed by Tobei Kamei, Tomikichiro Tokuriki and Eiichi Kotozuka, to promote the art of sosaku hanga, in which the artist designed, carved and printed the prints himself. Several times, these three artists published a set of art prints together, with varying themes. A rare collection of collaboration prints is Fifty Flower Themes, published in 1930. These prints, which demonstrate such a simple way to portray these flowers, are beautiful in their simplicity. Please remember that these prints are 95 years old. It is so rare to find these in good quality. On auction is the print Lady's Fingers by Tobei Kamei. Okra, Abelmoschus esculentus, known in some countries as Okra, is a flowering plant in the mallow family native to East Africa. Cultivated in tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate regions around the world for its edible green seed pods, okra is used in the cuisines of many countries. Tobei Kamei (1901-1977) initially trained in traditional Japanese painting before he moved on to woodblock prints. He was a founding member of Kyoto Sosaku Hanga Kyokai. After WWII Tobei worked with the artists Tokuriki Tomikichiro and Kotozuka Eiichi to publish and sell sosaku hanga prints. In addition to this independant publishing venture, Tobei created designs for the publishing companies Uchida and Unsodo. These latter prints departed from the Sosaku Hanga ideal of the artist fully participating in all components of print making including the design, block carving, and printing of each print. Kamei's art can be found in the collections of the following museums: - Chiba City Museum of Art, Chiba, Japan - Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, San Francisco, USA - Harvard Art Museum, Cambridge, USA - Los Angeles County Museum, Los Angeles, USA - National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Japan The print is in good condition. This print has never been framed and always stored in a dark place. Due to the introduction of the import tariff system in 2025, Maltapost has suspended all postal services to the USA until further notice. If you live in the USA, you will need to give an alternative address outside of the USA for shipments. Otherwise, please refrain from bidding.
