Christofle - Gallia - Décanteur - Decanter - cristal gravé floral - Plaqué(e) argent, Cristal

Decanter with Handle - Gallia - Christofle - Etched Crystal, circa 1900-1910 Beautiful silver-plated decanter from the renowned Gallia line by Christofle, France. Height: approx. 30 cm • Length: approx. 18 cm • Body diameter: approx. 12 cm • Weight: 1.389 kg (1389 g) Base: cast alloy ("Gallia metal", copper/tin) with a silver plating; the neck features the Gallia coat of arms with a rooster logo and the text "GALLIA" (see photos). The body is made of clear, luxurious crystal with elegantly etched decorations of vines and leaves, typical of the transition between Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The silver-plated neck, spout, and decorative handle are richly ornamented with leaf motifs and full of unusual, graceful floral shapes, exquisitely crafted. The spout is made in the shape of a satyr's head (half man, half goat) is a companion of Bacchus/Dionysus, the god of wine and festivities. In the decorative arts, it symbolizes joy, abundance, seduction, and sensuality—themes that perfectly complement wine or liqueur tableware. The combination of a satyr head with floral motifs (such as the lily of the valley) is typical of the transition between Neo-Rococo and Art Nouveau, around 1895-1905. The lily of the valley symbolizes purity, spring, happiness, and rebirth. In this carafe, the head refers to the wine cult of Bacchus and emphasizes the luxurious and festive function of the object: a carafe for wine or liqueur with symbols of nature (flowers) and pleasure (satyr). Condition: well-preserved (see photos) – minor signs of wear, glass without visible cracks, engraving intact. This sale is about the decanter only. Please see the photos; they are part of the description. Shipping: Catawiki's smart shipping conditions, insured and well-packaged.
