Wuhan Before Wuhan chronicles the personal and photographic transformation of Spanish photographer Jorquera, who arrived in the Chinese city in 2007, then largely unknown in the West. Jorquera had chosen an inland city, far from megacities like Beijing or Shanghai, to settle down, forge connections, focus on a more manageable space, and immerse himself in a specific context. But the lack of familiar references and the lack of communication led to isolation, and this, in turn, to disorientation. Thus emerged a more introspective journey, an inward journey in which Wuhan represents something both fundamental and universal: the search for identity.
