Claude Monet (1840–1926) (after) - "Nymphéas, 1916-19"

- Claude Monet (after), "Nymphéas, 1916-19". Authorized offset print on heavyweight smooth satin paper (300gsm approx.). - Signed in the plate. - Stamp on verso. - Condition: excellent. Never framed, never exposed. - Size: 60 x 80cm. - Claude Monet (1840–1926) was a leading figure in the Impressionist movement and is celebrated for his groundbreaking approach to capturing light and atmosphere. Born in Paris and raised in Le Havre, he showed an affinity for drawing from an early age. He later moved to Paris, where he studied art and connected with other painters who shared his drive to paint scenes directly from nature, in what would become the Impressionist style. Monet’s fascination with reflecting surfaces, shifting weather conditions, and seasonal changes led him to create numerous series of the same subject at different times of day or under various lighting conditions. His gardens at Giverny provided him with endless inspiration, especially the lily pond he cultivated for painting en plein air. It was here that he developed his famed “Nymphéas” (Water Lilies) series, now recognized as one of the most iconic bodies of work in modern art. Among these paintings is a “Nymphéas” from 1916–19, in this work, Monet used loose, expressive brushstrokes and a softer, more abstract treatment of forms to convey the tranquil yet dynamic quality of water, lily pads, and reflection. Subtle color transitions and layered textures highlight his focus on light, movement, and the meditative ambiance of his garden pond. The hanging willow branches provide a frame that further immerses the viewer into the serene scene. Today, Monet’s works consistently achieve high prices at auction. His water lily paintings in particular command exceptional sums, frequently selling in the tens of millions of dollars. This enduring market demand underscores Monet’s status not only as a foundational Impressionist but also as a master whose works continue to captivate collectors and art enthusiasts worldwide. Some artists of similar importance, Basquiat, Picasso, Hockney, Lichtenstein, Sorolla, Banksy, Brainwash, Miró, Nara, Soulages, Lagasse, Ramos, Rothko, Lautrec, Klimt, Modigliani, Hirst, Chagall, Koons, among others.
