Asiático occidental Shell et Hardstone Collier de perles (Sans prix de réserve)

A restrung Western Asiatic necklace formed from white shell and hardstone beads. The beads present with a variety of shapes, including disc-shaped, rounded, tubular, and polygonal beads. Each bead displays a unique white or cream hue with natural striations. The beads increase slightly in size towards the centre, where a round pendant is pierced through the middle for suspension. Please note this necklace is unclasped and threaded upon string. Signs of wear as consistent with age such as minor chipping. Jewellery is thought to be one of the oldest forms of art within history, with the presence of rings, bangles and necklaces in almost all ancient societies. The Western Asiatic region is home to many interesting and unique jewellery patterns, with hardstone being the common material of choice for ancient citizens to decorate themselves with. The sophisticated nature of the society can be seen through their jewellery making skills with elaborate patterns and carvings being common finds. Much evidence has been found in funerary contexts, suggesting that jewellery was not only made to adorn the living, but also to accompany the deceased. Measurements: Full length 59 cm; Beaded length 35cm; Provenance: Ex Japanese private collection, deceased, 1970-2010.
