Textile - 200 cm - 200 cm - Kilims antiques d'Oltenie

This is an authentic antique Romanian scoarță (traditional wall rug), handwoven in the Oltenia region and preserved within the same family for generations as part of a bridal dowry (zestre). The rug was created specifically for family use, not for trade, which is reflected in the density of the weave, the rich symbolic composition, and the remarkable quality of materials. It features a deep black background decorated with large stylized red floral motifs, framed by protective borders and symmetrical vine-like elements — a classic and highly sought-after Oltenian design language. The wool is naturally hand-spun and dyed using traditional vegetal pigments, giving the colors a soft yet vibrant appearance that only genuine antique textiles achieve over time. The weaving is tight, regular, and extremely well preserved, with no structural damage, repairs, or losses. Despite its age of over a century, the piece remains in extraordinary condition, a rare survival likely due to careful indoor storage and respectful family preservation. Cultural & Symbolic Value In Romanian folk culture, such rugs were more than decorative objects. They symbolized: * prosperity and continuity of the family line * protection of the household * fertility, harmony, and abundance Dowry scoarțe were often displayed only on important occasions and passed down as family heirlooms, making surviving examples of this quality increasingly rare today. Collector’s Note Comparable Oltenian scoarțe of this size, age, and condition are highly sought after by collectors of Eastern European textiles, folk art specialists, and interior designers. Large square formats (approx. 2 × 2 m) in such preserved condition are particularly uncommon. This piece would be equally suited for: * a private collection * a museum or ethnographic display * a high-end interior with cultural focus Provenance Family-owned heirloom, inherited directly from great-grandparents.
Provenance is continuous and well-documented within the family. Why this piece stands out Genuine antique (not vintage or reproduction)
 Exceptional state of preservation
 Strong regional identity (Oltenia)
 Emotional and historical family provenance
 Museum-quality craftsmanship
