Eitaro Takano - Boîte/pot à thé - Grès - Rare pièce sculpturale Kogo
A rare sculptural Japanese ceramic incense container (kogo) by Eitaro Takano, created in the second half of the 20th century (c. 1960s–1970s).
This work, titled “Gaku” (Peak), is characterised by its powerful mountain-like form and expressive ash-covered stoneware surface, formed naturally during high-temperature firing. The compact interior and lidded structure clearly indicate its intended use as a kogo rather than a vessel.
Sculptural kogo of this level of abstraction and presence are uncommon, and examples accompanied by the original tomobako and cloth are particularly limited. The piece functions both as a refined tea ceremony object and as an independent ceramic sculpture with strong architectural character.
