Textile - 180 cm - 35 cm - Église populaire roumaine

Authentic Romanian ethnographic wall textile, handwoven and hand-embroidered, originating from the village of Topla, Romania, dating to the early 20th century. This textile was handmade by the seller’s great-grandmother and represents a genuine family heirloom with strong local provenance. It was traditionally displayed inside the local village church, where it held a ceremonial and symbolic role, rather than being used for domestic purposes. The church where this textile was kept no longer exists today, and the village itself is now uninhabited, which adds to the historical and cultural significance of the piece. After the closure of the church, the textile was carefully removed and stored, explaining its exceptionally clean and well-preserved condition, despite its age. The piece is entirely handwoven and hand-embroidered, using traditional techniques and motifs specific to Romanian rural folk art. Such textiles were often created with spiritual meaning, intended for religious interiors and important communal events. Details: Origin: Topla village, Romania Period: Early 20th century (circa 1900–1930) Technique: Handwoven textile with hand embroidery Materials: Traditional natural fibres (linen / hemp base) Dimensions: approx. 180/35 cm Condition: Very good to excellent antique condition; clean, no holes, no restorations Provenance: Family heirloom; formerly displayed in a village church This is a genuine historical folk art object, not a reproduction, suitable for collectors of ethnographic textiles, religious folk art, or interior wall display.
