École européenne (XX) - After Ivan Shishkin – Bears in a Pine Forest

Oil painting on canvas, depicting a forest scene with bears, inspired by the iconic composition “Morning in a Pine Forest” originally created by Ivan Shishkin with Konstantin Savitsky. This work was painted by an anonymous Romanian artist, most likely during the 1980s–1990s, a period when such hand-painted reinterpretations of famous 19th-century Russian realist works were popular in Eastern Europe. The painting is hand-painted, executed in oil on canvas, with visible brushwork and canvas texture throughout, clearly indicating it is not a print or reproduction. The composition follows the classical realist tradition, with strong attention to atmosphere, depth, and natural light filtering through the pine forest. The bears are rendered with careful detail and movement, creating a lively and narrative scene. The artwork is signed in the lower corner; however, the signature is partially illegible, and the artist has not been identified. The signature appears to be applied in paint directly on the canvas. The painting is large in size and presented in an ornate gilded frame, which complements the traditional character of the artwork and enhances its decorative presence. The frame appears to be original to the period. Condition: The painting is in good overall condition, with normal signs of age consistent with its period. The paint surface is stable, with no visible tears or major damage. Minor wear may be present on the frame, consistent with age. Attribution: Anonymous Romanian artist, signed (illegible). After Ivan Shishkin & Konstantin Savitsky (after), not attributed to the original artists. Provenance: Private collection, Romania.
