Signed, William Klein - William Klein - 1987

William Klein Signed, William Klein PPS/1987/Japanese/293*305*8 A photobook by William Klein, an American painter, photographer, and filmmaker born in New York City. Born and raised in New York, he later moved to Paris. There, he studied painting under Fernand Léger but later turned to photography and film. His 1956 publication New York is renowned as a masterpiece in the history of photobooks. As stated in this book, “It was groundbreaking, presenting a new visual language that broke with traditional ways of seeing through the adoption of techniques like blur, coarse grain, telephoto and wide-angle lenses, and direct flashlight, combined with a method of strongly reflecting himself in his work.” His subsequent photobooks, including Rome, Moscow, and Tokyo, continue to exert a major influence today. He was also active in fashion photography. This volume comprises his major works from the 1950s to the 1980s. While predominantly monochrome, several color photographs are also included. Texts are contributed by Daido Moriyama, who deeply admired Klein, as well as Tatsuo Fukushima, Hiroshi Hamatani, Kazutaka Nara, and Tadanori Yokoo. Signed and inscribed.
