Nº 100761173

Ténéré Pierre Disque percé néolithique - 3.8 cm
The use of these stone discs is unknown but there are numerous suggestions to what they might have been used for, some call them weights for fishing nets, others pieces of jewellery, or used in the production of ropes or yarn or simply referring to them as ritual objects. They are found in the central and southern Sahara and are mostly attributed to the Ténéré culture. This example is quite thick and heavy and made from a nicely speckled stone. It is in good condition with some small damages to the sides attesting to its age.
