Japanese Vintage Kanna Planes – Set of 5 / Includes Kiwaganna & Rare Mini Plane / Specialty Carpenter Tools (Showa era) This lot is a set of five (5) traditional Japanese woodworking planes (kanna). It includes not only standard planes, but also specialty types such as a Kiwaganna (edge plane), plus a very rare miniature kanna (mini plane) — a highlight of this collection. Japanese planes are designed to cut on the pull stroke, and many different forms exist depending on the woodworking task: finishing surfaces, corners, edges, end grain, and detailed areas. This set reflects how Japanese carpenters used multiple planes for different jobs, and it is recommended not only as functional tools but also as a collectible set representing Japanese craftsmanship and traditional tool culture. Highlight: Unique “Mini Kanna” (Miniature Plane) The mini plane included in this lot is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It was intended for fine detailing and working in narrow areas, and its distinctive shape makes it especially interesting. Beyond being a tool, it also looks great for display — and the presence of this mini plane makes the set particularly attractive to overseas collectors. About the Kiwaganna (Edge Plane) A Kiwaganna features a diagonally positioned (offset) blade, allowing it to reach areas that are difficult to work with standard planes, such as edges and corner sections. It is a great example of the functional design and ingenuity found in traditional Japanese tools. ⸻ Condition (Important) As vintage items, there are signs of age such as scuffs, small scratches, stains on the wood, and rust/discoloration on the metal parts. Please note the following damages: • Two butterfly nuts (wing nuts) are broken • There are cracks/splits on some parts (please check photos) Sharpening and adjustment are required due to age. Therefore, please consider this lot mainly for collection/display purposes. Please refer to the photos for details.
