Produced in Tarragona, Spain, where the monks opened a distillery following their expulsion from the Grande Chartreuse by the authorities of the Third Republic, then governed by the fiercely anticlerical Emile Combes, after the Left Bloc's victory in the 1902 elections. Although the monks regained their brand in 1929, the Tarragona distillery remained in operation until 1989.
