Roman plate with applied decoration (2nd–3rd centuries AD). Terra sigillata. Diameter 18.5 cm. Fragmented and restored. Attached a thermoluminescence certificate from QED Laboratoire.
The term terra sigillata refers chiefly to a specific type of plain and decorated tableware made in Italy and in Gaul (France and the Rhineland) during the Roman Empire. These vessels have a characteristic colour range from pale orange to bright red glossy surface; they were produced in standard shapes and sizes and were manufactured on an industrial scale and widely exported.
