Born in 1973, Christian Guémy, alias C215, gained international recognition in the second half of the 2000s thanks to his stencils, often focused on portraiture. Hyperactive both on the streets and in the studio, Christian Guémy is the embodiment of today’s street art. A lover of classical art—particularly the great masters of the Italian and Flemish Renaissance like Caravaggio and Dürer—he has brought dignity to the stencil medium, astonishing audiences with his technique. But his allure doesn’t stop there. He skillfully uses his marketing sense and rhetoric to create works on the most universal subjects: numerous portraits of anonymous people, including the homeless; his daughter Nina, whom he continuously depicted throughout her childhood; as well as many portraits of historical, literary, and poetic figures. C215 is a deeply humanist painter, expressing himself through a sensitive, fragmented, raw visual language, enriched by a plural culture and universal values, advocating tolerance and togetherness. His work has gained institutional recognition for several years, with significant exhibitions dedicated to him, from the Musée des Arts et Métiers to the Musée des Invalides, and more recently, the Inguimbertine in Carpentras.
